Unlocking The Mystery of Me…Why Can’t I Lust The Good Stuff?

Last shopping trip I bought pears (on sale), cantaloupe (bogo) and bananas (cheap). They sit on my counter to ripen and I stare at them every time I enter the kitchen in search of food. They are not calling out to me…I’m not anxious for them to ripen. As a matter of fact I bought extra bananas because usually the kids demolish them…and now they have not been here to eat them. They are spotting and will soon be prime banana bread material.

Why can’t I lust after good foods the way I do after sugar and carbs? What tells my body that a bagel slathered in peanut butter is going to taste better than a lush green salad? Who decided it? My mouth controlled by rebelling taste buds? My nose that only desires to inhale the lovely aroma of fresh baked cookies and breads? My eyes that have been dimmed to only see the bad stuff? Maybe my mind which has been brainwashed by all the other parts into thinking I NEED breads and cookies, sweets and salty fries. Who has betrayed me? What part of my body do I interrogate first?

I think I’ve been watching too much Forensic Files…haha! But I do want to know and I am on the search to solve this mystery within myself…duh duh duh!

I broke down and put on the a/c. The coughing returned with a vengeance last night and I was up a lot with that spastic kind of coughing. Will see if it helps. I am heading out shortly to take some allergy med to my son at school and then WILL be back on here. It was just tooooo hot last night to run the computer. I am wondering about everyone and want so badly to catch up.

Have a super Monday guys!

When you solve the mystery, please email me and let me know because I’ve got the same problem. One good thing is that after I get in the habit of eating the bananas, cantaloup, oranges, apples, etc.,and all the starchy, carby, fatty stuff is out of my system I DO start to be hungry for the good stuff… NOT the Lusty Craving you describe and which I believe is only reserved for carbs, fat & sugars, but a smaller inner voice saying… “hmmm, i’m hungry for something healthy”. But, on the flip side, once I pollute my body with the carbs, fat & sugars it seems to awaken that craving again. Good luck in your investigation!

See I love fruit and could eat pear after pear…it’s veggies that I suck at. I agree, try V8–it’s pretty good.

Ha Ha Ha. I dont know why we want the “bad” stuff. It just tastes so darn GOOD ;) I swear I almost turned my AC on lastnight too. I cant believe it was in the 90s all weekend here. I resisted turning it on and cranked the fan on high. I don’t have a cough though or I know I would have !

Oh, gods, I would be devouring all the pears, bananas and melons if I could… I have to calculate my fruit intakes carefully, or I will go overboard in a flash! Ever tried oatmeal with a mushed banana and a teaspoon of unsweetened cocoa powder and a bit of dates? Heavenly! Do you like kind of light salad with all those lovely fresh fruits and lemon low cal yogurt and a bit of nuts? Mmgh… And smoothies, with fruits, soy milk… Oh. My. God. Some fruits actually go well with peanut butter too! Try dipping your melon or pairs in it and save yourself like 500 cals from that horror-show bagel. And you can always make a mini-crumble with baked pear and a tiny bit of toping. Or just baked pear… Then, you can combine your fruits with meats, plenty of mouthwatering recipes out there. I think I saw a cili or curry with a banana for a tropical flavour recently. And oh, yes! Fruty couscous or rice… aww… or even with cottage cheese melts.

I wanna know too. I do know my tastes have changed, and I actually crave the healthy stuff, but not ALL the time. Stay strong!

If you want your fries, go get them and bake them! And if you really want all that salt then get No Salt and cover them! Dont deprive yourself!!! I am having baked fries tonight. The kind I buy I get 27 fries in one serving and then I’m gonna cover them in 2% milk sliced cheese! Never will I give up my cheese fries!

As for sweet, try Jello’s sugar free 60 calorie dulce de leche pudding. Vanilla pudding with carmel topping. This stuff should be marked dangerous and illegal its that good!

But dont force yourself to eat something you really dont want. You’ll just end up eating more!

Bless whoever it was that thought up baked fries, even my hubby likes them! I’ve tried making my favorite cake into cupcakes, I can have a small one and not feel so guilty. My absolute downfall is BREAD, I love almost any kind except rye. Soon we will have fresh tomatoes and peaches and watermelon, yummy. Can’t wait, at least for a while I will really enjoy eating what is good for me.
