Goin’ Grocery Shopping…Any Ideas??
I want to get a real good start on my fresh start. I was wondering if anyone might share a favorite food item to try or maybe even a meal idea. I’m a simple girl, don’t do too many fancy dishes but would love to hear anything you share. I’ll go first…I just tried the Special K Cinnamon Pecan cereal…yum!
I have a few simple things I like. Dont know what your tastes are. But I love a simple tomatoe and mozzeralla salad with light balsimic vinegar. I also make cucumbers, onions, in red wine vinegar. Both these snacks are soooo low in calories and points. I love the low fat chocolate peanut butter granolas. I am ADDICTED to the low fat string cheese. And I love sugar free pop sicles. They give me my dose of sweet…
I think you should just take your time. Browse through all the sections. Pick things you like. Read labels. And visit the Natural Foods section.
Dont try a ton of new things or you might get discouraged…
Have you checked out hungrygirl.com??? She has GREAT tips and reviews of popular products…
GOOD LUCK…
Silhouette 0+ Yogurt!! YUMMY!! it comes in all sorts of good flavor’s. its a good source of calcium and makes a great snack,
Hi,if you are trying to avoid mood swings, I’d stay away from anything with sugar, or a lot of additives, including anything with E numbers (usually artificial colourings and flavourings).
Less processed food is probably best. If you don’t like cooking anything fancy, then maybe some fish, chicken and steak you can broil and serve with fresh vegetables or salads.
Fellow buddyslimmers and I have posted some recipes, including a low calorie Caesar salad which I have just put up especially with you in mind. Some of these recipes are really easy as well as healthy and tasty.
Well years ago I had tried weight watchers and I just tried to minimize the bread intake but I love bread so I tried the light D’taliano breads and the light wheat bread fyi make sure it says enriched wheat flour cause if not it’s like eating regular bread which defeats the purpose of buying light. Also the Smart Ones frozen foods are good for lunch but drink plenty water cause some of them are high in salt. Good luck!
Thank you all for the ideas…got my brain gears goin
I will be adding these things to my list Im working on right now.
Dawn, growing up my parents would do the cucumber/onion/vinegar combo. I will definatly be revisiting that! Forgot about Hungrygirl too.
Thanks so much all!!
Hi Debbi!
I don’t have any good advice regarding ready-to-eat foods at the grocer. My diet consists primarily of raw and unrefined foods that I throw together to make easy meals later… like I mix chopped veggies into a bag, so they’re ready to be used in stirfry at any time. Or I’ll mix diced/julienned veggies into a bag of salad mixings and keep them in the fridge so I have salads ready at any time. I also keep boiled eggs, canned albacore, pickled veggies, pre-grilled chicken breast, etc. in the fridge for the same reasons. I try to take a step or two out of the cooking process so when I do feel the urge to eat, it’s easy to get meals ready.
Good luck in your shopping! Sorry I can’t help more.
Grilled Chicken, (George Forman Grill $19.99 or on sale for $14.99), frozen mix veg (broccoli, cauliflower, or whatever, something low in starch) and my all time favorite, Quinoa. Quinoa is packed in vitamins and has all the essential amino acids that make up a pure protein. It’s easy to cook. It cooks like rice, so I cup Quinoa to 2 cups water. (I use fat free low sodium bouillon cubes to make it a little tastier).
Tip number two… cook 6 meals at once… so that way, when you make your Quinoa, you can divide it up by half cups into your portioned out meals…
Have a million recipes if you are interested.
Sisterly Love!

Kashi Go Lean Crunch, honey almond flax. I can’t do with out that cereal, comes in hot and cold!

Plus whole grain bread, turkey slices, and lots of fresh fruit!
Smart Ones brand desserts! I love every single one of em, but the chocolate chip cookie dough sundae thing is my favorite. I also always make sure to buy lots of boneless skinless chicken breasts, mushrooms, oh and the egg substitutes you can buy by the carton…hmm…spray butter! That stuff has been a Godsend, I tell ya! 0 calories and guilt free! I love, love, love the Kashi Go Lean Crunch cereal too…oh, and oatmeal, that is another staple of mine. Best of luck to you!

greek yogurt is a new favorite, homemade granola with no oil, lentil soup is so easy after all - broth, lentils, tomatoes, onions, carrots, celery, a shake of soy sauce. you can throw it in a crockpot and have it for dinner! i’ve been into soups again as the weather already turned cold. instant oatmeal, rice cakes with almond, sunflower seed, or pnut butter, apples, cucumbers. hummus and carrots.
Thanks you all…this is exactly what I was looking for. Its hard to break out of the same old ruts sometimes and this really helps
Okay, its not fancy but here are my 3 favorite things….for breakfast-almonds and 1oz of cheese..monterey and cheddar marble. I can eat it anywhere…like commuting to work. My other favorite is thick sliced summer squash microwaved for 1 minute with lid to steam and then some dill on top (I put dill on everything!!) I also like a little sea salt on it. And that spray on salad dressing is wonderful on everything!!
Zoe cereal, I gotta have protein with my carbs or I’ll crash out about an hour later. With skim milk makes a fast and decent meal (lol, yes I will eat cereal for dinner)
I hit the salad bar at the grocery store to buy stuff I don’t want to cut up, or won’t use a whole one of.
Frozen plain cheese pizza with veggies from the salad bar… quick and easy (and yummy if you like a variety of toppings) prolly could get whole wheat crust or lite cheese.
I’ve been eating plain fat free yogurt with berries and all-bran (plain) sprinkled on it… the yogurt takes a while to get a taste for, but it’s good for ya! Also, I put it on tacos and such in place of sour cream (cuz, yeah, it tastes sour…at first… I’m kinda acclimated to it now)
I could go on and on, obviously, I love food….

My main thing to look at in nutrition labels is the amount of fiber… as an example, I love 5 grain cheerios… and with only 110 cal’s… why not?
Also beware of food’s marked natural… Read ingredients!!! Very important….
Make sure when u buy anything that says its made with whole grain or wheat, that the ingredients dont say “enriched”… in other words it is everything but the good stuff…\
gud luk!!!
For something sweet…sugar free jello with fat-free cool whip! It’s virtually harmless!!
