Trading Comfort Foods for Comfort Friends

That’s what I need to do.

I tend to withdraw when I’m struggling or hurting. Then I begin to feel lonely, which leads to the desire to be comforted. A blankie and a thumb in the mouth no longer work. But FOOD in the mouth does…at least temporarily. Ok and maybe a fuzzy blankie doesn’t hurt.

I need to learn to reach out more. I’ve been on my butt more than my feet lately, but I’m going to continue to stand back up with Gods grace, stretch out my arms like a baby toddling to its parent, seeking Him and seeking friends for comfort. I won’t be perfect, I will fall, but I will keep trying and keep reaching. And I hope to someday soon, be strong enough to be a comforting place for another struggling toddler who is reaching out.

The love from true friends fills my heart much fuller and much longer than a piece of cake can fill my stomach. And that love is calorie free…even better!

Lord, help me to reach out to You and the friendship of those around me for the comfort I crave, and not the food.

I never thought about that, but I love the plan. I believe you are right. Comfort friends….. I have a few and I haven’t thought about the option. Wow, simple as this sounds I believe you are very smart.

Comfort friends…yeah, that sounds like a plan!
    I am with you there.

Been times in the past when I was going through something hard…and I would come here and find so much comfort, and love, and support! Thank you Debbi for being there for me!!!!

    Hey Debbi…
Thats what I love about this place (among other things of course) is that someone comes up with an idea..and shares it…and it reaches out and touches others…how cool is that.
I agree 100 % with the others…I love the sound of that!
    Take care of yourself now…
    Much love…Debbie

I love the concept of ‘comfort friends’. That’s what buddyslim is supposed to be. A network of friends to comfort us when we despair, support us when we stumble on the way to our goals and motivate us when we falter in our determination. Thank you, friend, you have indeed been a comfort to me many times. :)

hear, hear!!! i also have received comfort from my many friends it is a great alternative. it is beautiful to share — when one cries, we cry with them, when one is honored we all rejoice.

Amen to this. I believe friends fill that hole in our heart that food never can.

this sounds like it could have been me in terms of the comfort foods that i see as friends. it si so true that real friends are the real comfort rather than the foods!
